President Donald Trump attacked two major US newspapers in a Twitter blast on a busy Saturday when he was scheduled to speak with five world leaders, including Russia’s Vladimir Putin.
Trump criticized The New York Times and The Washington Post as being dishonest in a series of tweets that featured several typos. The reason for the early morning onslaught was not immediately clear.

Gambian President Adama Barrow said Saturday that every aspect of his tiny west African state would need an overhaul after ex-leader Yahya Jammeh’s 22-year rule, but that its dread secret police would remain.
Barrow faces an uphill task after taking over from Jammeh, who left behind a dysfunctional economy and allegedly emptied state coffers ahead of his departure.

Fire guts Biafra market in Onitsha, Nigeria. Goods worth tens of millions lost





It was learned that late friday night fire gutted some parts of Biafra Market Onitsha,Sokoto Road close to River Niger, also known as Glorious Market Onitsha, Anambra State, destroying over 300 shops and goods worth over N50 million, no life was lost but some traders were said to have sustained injuries while trying to rescue their goods.

A draft law pending in Russia’s parliament would seriously weaken protections against domestic violence, Human Rights Watch said today. Parliament should reject the law as dangerous and incompatible with Russia’s international human rights obligations.
“Passage of this law would be a huge step backward for Russia, where victims of domestic violence already face enormous obstacles to getting help or justice,” said Yulia Gorbunova, Russia researcher at Human Rights Watch. “The domestic violence bill would reduce penalties for abusers and put victims’ lives at even greater risk.”

Nigeria - Suspected members of Boko Haram have reportedly invaded a military camp of ‘Operation Lafiya Dole’ in Kamuya village of Buratai ward of Biu Local Government Area of Borno state, where they sacked the soldiers at their duty post, before carting away arms and ammunitions, sources have revealed. 

The sources also alleged that three soldiers were feared dead. Kamuya is located about 6 kilometres to Buratai, the ancestral home of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai.

President Donald Trump on Friday put a four-month hold on allowing refugees into the United States and temporarily barred visitors from Syria and six other Muslim-majority countries, saying the moves would help protect Americans from terrorist attacks.
The order limiting entry on visitors from Syria and six other Muslim-majority countries is for 90 days. The six other countries are: Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen, the White House said.

Imo, Nigeria - Dare-devil gunmen stormed the Owerri High Court in commando style yesterday, killing no fewer than six persons, including two prison wardens.
The invaders also ferried away a notorious kidnap suspect, Henry Chibueze, popularly known as Vampire, who had been brought to the court from Owerri Prisons.
It was a horrific sight as judges and lawyers struggled to scale the perimeter fence to escape from the gunmen that sacked the court.

Trump has 'friendly' call with Mexican leader but demands change

U.S. President Donald Trump said he had a friendly phone call with Mexico's president on Friday but asserted he will renegotiate trade deals and other aspects of the countries' ties because Mexico has "beat us to a pulp" in the past.
Mexico's peso extended gains on news of the call.

Jamaican sprint superstar Usain Bolt returned his 2008 Beijing Olympic 4x100m relay gold medal Friday and would help finance an appeal to Nesta Carter’s doping punishment, the Jamaica Gleaner reported. 

Bolt told the newspaper that while he is not pleased at having to surrender the medal, he will not allow the situation to distract from his focus in this planned farewell season and says it will not impact his athletics legacy.
