Nigeria - It was the end of the road for a suspected drug trafficker after he was nabbed by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, over 26.2kg of ephedrine found in female foot wears, tori.ng reports.

The narcotics were detected during the screening of passengers.

In another operation, the operatives also arrested two suspects who had just arrived from Cambodia and Sierra Leone with 305g and 1.37kg of cocaine respectively.

Wow! US suspends fast processing of high-tech visa applications

Foreigners aiming for temporary jobs at high-tech U.S. companies will undergo a longer visa approval process after the Trump administration announced it will temporarily suspend expedited applications for H-1B visas.

The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) said on Friday that starting April 3 it will suspend "premium processing" for up to six months.

Barack Obama has rejected claims he ordered a wire tap of Donald Trump before November's election (READ INITIAL REPORT HERE).

On Saturday morning Mr Trump tweeted: "Terrible! Just found out that Obama had my 'wires tapped' in Trump Tower just before the victory. Nothing found. This is McCarthyism!"

The president added: "Is it legal for a sitting president to be 'wire tapping' a race for president prior to an election? Turned down by court earlier. A NEW LOW!"

Report says Buhari's aides are uncomfortable with Osinbajo's rising popularity,

Nigeria - A report by foreignpolicy.com has revealed that close aides of President Muhammadu Buhari are uncomfortable with the rising popularity of Acting President Yemi Osinbajo.

The report said the president’s aides countenance has been ‘’leaked to the press,’’ but was silent on whether it was the local or international press.

If there is one ray of hope to be gleaned from the bizarre saga of Buhari’s disappearance it’s that his deputy, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, has filled in admirably in his boss’s absence.

US says 220 civilians killed by strikes in Iraq and Syria since 2014

Twenty-one civilians were killed in nine separate strikes by the U.S.-led coalition fighting Islamic State in Iraq and Syria between November and January, the U.S. military said on Saturday.

That brings the total number of civilians unintentionally killed by the coalition since the start of operations against the militant group in 2014 to 220, the military said in a statement.

Reuben Abati blasts Buhari's aides, calls them serial liars and peddlers of falsehood

Nigeria - Former presidential spokesperson, Dr Reuben Abati has berated officials of the present administration of always peddling falsehood.

According to Daily Post, Abati said there was danger in peddling a single side of the story of how Nigeria’s recession started as championed by President Muhammadu Buhari’s cabinet.

Abati stated that Jonathan administration rebased the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the nation and made Nigeria the largest economy in Africa.

CBN to pump fresh $350m into forex market as Naira stays firm against dollar

Nigeria - In continuation of its strategy to further strengthen the value of the naira the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) is set to pump more United States dollars into the foreign exchange market this weekend, The Punch reports.

A source at the apex bank on condition of anonymity said that CBN was set to release an additional $350m into the forex market.

The move will push the total amount that the CBN has pumped into the market this week to about $570m, in its bid to further crash the value of the dollar.

Nigeria - The cargo section of a passenger train travelling from Lagos to Kano on Saturday got detached from the main body and later derailed in Osogbo, Osun state.

Mechanical fault was suspected as cause of the accident.

The three wagons attached to the end of the passenger train got detached from the rest of the coaches at Ifon area of Osun at about 1:45 a.m.
